Marlborough Region

Marlborough is situated in the northeastern corner of New Zealand’s South Island. Its northern shores are the scenically spectacular Marlborough Sounds. Down its eastern side are the mountainous Kaikoura Ranges, which drop down to the Pacific Ocean. The area is one of New Zealand’s finest grape growing regions.

Picton Waterfront

Picton in the Marlborough Sounds is the terminus for the Cook Strait ferries. It is a pretty, small town and is also gateway to the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, a series of flooded valleys that open onto the Cook Strait. The Sounds have picturesque bays and beaches, excellent fishing, and the stunning Queen Charlotte Walkway.

To the south, Blenheim is at the heart of the region’s grape growing district. One of the sunniest towns in New Zealand, it is a service centre for the Marlborough region. The town has some pretty parks, gardens and historic buildings. It is an excellent base for those wanting to enjoy the wineries of the region and is host to the annual Marlborough Food and Wine Festival.
